3.0 out of 5 stars Doesn't work for macadamias, June 4, 2011

Not sure what the other reviewer is about, because this cracker doesn't work for macadamias at all. Mine did not have a screw at the end, but a metal disk. It holds the macadamia real tight, but no amount of human force can make that nut crack. Sadly, I bought this specifically for this kind of nut. Otherwise, a nice-looking instrument.

This review is from: Blomus Nutcracker (Kitchen)
I bought this nutcracker specifically for shelling macadamia nuts. The heavy stainless steel seemed like just the thing. Plus, I had read a review from someone else who used it for macadamias. If it really worked, I was willing to deal with the priciness.

I estimate we tested three dozen nuts and managed to get 4 to crack after a huge investment of time. We had to put on gloves because the turning mechanism hurt our hands and is too short to get a good grip or adequate leverage. We tried repositioning the nuts, thinking that might be a factor, but nothing seemed to make any difference. The design is flawed. The product we received did not look like the picture. It had a flat disk at the end of the screw, so it dispersed the point of impact instead of focusing it. Anyway, we returned it and are going back to the sledge hammer method since it takes only a fraction of the time and actually works.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Nutcracker !, March 30, 2010
I bought one of these for use mostly with macadamia nuts (the hardest nut in the world) and it worked perfectly where many other failed before.

A bit difference from the photos (for best) is that mine has a tiny metal cone at the end of the screw, which puts the nut in the right place as of the screw is getting close the nut.

The construction quality of this "toy" makes honor to its german design (China made), so it's useful, well made and elegant, all in one. It seems it could last for 100 years :-)

A really good choice!
